How to keep your solid wood floor in a good condition?

Hard wood floors are definitely a real gem, offering that note of elegance and refinement to each space. However, as spectacular as natural wood is, it is as demanding in terms of care.

Hard wood floors are definitely a real gem, offering that note of elegance and refinement to each space. However, as spectacular as natural wood is, it is as demanding in terms of care.

For any solid wood flooring to maintain its impeccable appearance over the years, you need to consider a few main tips. Euro Floors London specialists are sharing with you some of the most important ones:

Adopt a strict cleaning routine

Although a solid wood floor does not involve a complicated cleaning routine, it is very important that the order of the procedures is strictly followed. Thus, we recommend that you always start cleaning with vacuuming. In this way, you will remove all the particles that could later scratch the surface of the wood. When you start your cleaning routine by using a wet mop, the risk of causing visible defects on the surface of the wooden floor is quite high.

Don’t forget about the occasional wood floor refurbishment!

The finish of a hardwood floor does not last forever, so, now and then, the parquet may need a wood floor refurbishment. Through this process, the top layer of the wood is polished or even sanded, so that all stains and scratches are removed. At the end, a new finish is applied, and the wood flooring regains its original appearance.

Depending on the type of parquet you choose (solid wood flooring or engineered wood flooring), the floor can withstand 2-3 to 10 wood floor refurbishment procedures.

Watch out for excess wax

One solution that most hardwood flooring owners use to maintain the glossy and smooth appearance of parquet is wax. Normally, the wax layer can be applied twice a year, but not before the floor has already been sealed with a protective layer of penetrating sealer, varnish or lacquer.

However, many end up using wax more often than recommended, which can lead to a loaded or even clogged appearance. There are products in stores that can help you remove excess wax from the parquet, so do not hesitate to use them when needed.

Good maintenance means a prolonged life span for your wood flooring, so don’t forget to give equal importance to the cleaning, refreshing and refurbishment procedures.
